Welcome to C-PASS

Updated: Mar 12, 2021

TO ALL SHERIFFS’ SCHOOL RESOURCE DEPUTIES AND SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICERS:

We invite you to become a Charter Member of C-PASS, a new organization of Sheriffs’ School Resource Deputies and Sheriffs’ School Resource Officers created to serve your specific training and networking needs. We have long been aware of the need for better training opportunities and a better means of sharing information and ideas between SRO’s. We have been discussing with the New York State Sheriffs’ Association ways to address those needs.

Out of those discussions, the Committee on Policing and Safeguarding Schools (C-PASS) was born. C-PASS is a committee of the New York State Sheriffs’ Association, created to serve the training and networking needs of Sheriffs’ SRD’s and SRO’s. Membership on the committee is open to all Sheriffs SRO’s and SRD’s and their supervisors.

The C-PASS planning group has already developed various levels of Threat Assessment Training and a School Threat Assessment Response Team program, as well as training in SRO Response to Special Needs Students, and Stop the Bleed. A new basic course is also under development and we hope to pilot it this summer with state approval. We are also planning an Annual Summer Statewide Training Conference, the first of which will be held this July if State COVID regulations permit.

On the networking front, we have created a C-PASS website where you can find the latest in SRO news and information. https://www.c-pass.org/ .We will be instituting monthly training video calls for all SRO’s to join and share information and ideas. We will also offer the capability for SRO’s around the state to connect one-on-one with each other to continue the discussions and sharing through the first New York State SRO Forum. Also, we will be kicking-off our quarterly newsletter this Spring, in which we will highlight some of the unique and interesting things our SRO’s are doing around the state.

We have a lot of exciting things planned to help you do your job even better. We want you to be a part of this new endeavor, and we hope you will become a C-PASS Charter Member. Membership is free for this school year. To join the group and start receiving the benefits of membership, please go to https://www.c-pass.org/members .

With our thanks for your service to our students,
